The objective of Lyme Heartbeat is to increase the provision of 24-hour access defibrillators right across Lyme Regis and surrounding areas as the availability of defibrillators can help to save lives. We aim to increase awareness within the local community of how to perform CPR and use a defibrillator device in order to save a life in the event of a cardiac arrest.

We manage 11 units in and around Lyme, 2 of which the maintenance costs are met by South West Ambulance Service.

There is an ongoing cost commitment when installing a defibrillator. For instance the pads are single use and need to be replaced after each incident at a cost of £66 each. Furthermore, the pads have an expiry date of approximately two years. The batteries have a life span of approximately 5 years and when these need replacing the cost is £336 per unit (prices correct December 2022). There are some other costs we occasionally incur, for instance replacement of defib signs due to vandalism / wear and tear, replacement of cabinets due to corrosion and the rescue ready kit (£23.99) contained in each unit.
